Hi there! I'm Kusunoki!
I presented at DevelopersIO 2026 Tokyo, held on October 24, 2026, with a talk titled "A New Graduate Sales Rep from a Pharmacy School Does a Science Project with Amazon Bio Discovery!"
In this post, I'll share the slides from that day along with my thoughts after actually trying it out.

What I Talked About

This is a story about actually trying out "Amazon Bio Discovery," a service that supports the design and evaluation of antibody candidates, which I came across at AWS Summit Japan 2026.
In my previous booth report, I wrote that I wanted to "take a closer look at it next time," so this post is a follow-up to that!

I studied pharmacy in college, but I have almost no experience in development using AWS.
Even so, without writing any code or building any infrastructure, I was able to generate antibody candidates targeting a protein called PD-1.
In the presentation, I walked through the actual workflow, and also shared the results of increasing candidates from 1 to 10 and overlaying the structures, as well as comparing the structures produced by two different models.

What I Felt After Trying It Out

The thing that left the strongest impression on me was how much more smoothly everything went than I expected, right up to the point of generating candidates. It was really exciting to be able to explore something I had studied in college using an AWS service that's part of my current job!
On the other hand, even when structures and numbers appeared, making sense of them was a completely different challenge. This time, I only got as far as generating candidates on a computer — I didn't actually verify through experiments whether they would bind to the target.
Along with the joy of being able to generate results, I realized that I still need to study a lot more in order to properly interpret them. There are also features I haven't explored yet, so I hope to keep trying things out little by little going forward!

In Closing

Thank you so much to everyone who attended, and to everyone who prepared and organized the event!
I'd be thrilled if this presentation gave you a chance to discover that "AWS has services like this too!"
