今回は2023年9月14日にドイツ・ミュンヘンで開催されたAWS Community Day DACH 2023に参加してきたのでイベントのレポートブログを投稿します！
ヨーロッパでこの規模のイベントに参加するのは初めてで、せっかくなので「日本のイベントとの差」や「ヨーロッパでのAWSのトレンド」みたいなところを中心に紹介できればと思います。

トピックの出現頻度が高い順に並べてみると、上位5つはこんな感じになります。

- Event-Driven, DevOps, Scalability, Performance: 2回
まず、ServerlessやAWS Lambdaのサーバーレス系のトピックが圧倒的に多いのがみてわかるかと思います。
日本でも５、６年前ぐらい前からサーバーレスというトピックが流行りだしたのを覚えています。ちょうどクラスメソッドにもサーバーレス開発部という部署ができたのが2017年頃です。
（いったんセキュリティはおいといて）次に来るのがAWS CDKのIaCに関するトピックです。
各セッションの内容を見てみると、CDKの実装プラクティスやTerraformとの比較に関するセッションがあります。 他と比べるとCDKが人気な様です。
特にサーバーレスのイベントという訳ではなく、AWSコミュニティイベントなのでコミュニティに参加しているエンジニアが積極的にサーバーレスやIaCを推進したいのが透けて見えます。
実際に参加してみた感想
※ここからはあくまでも個人の感想です
ロックインに対する抵抗は割とありそう
最初のキーノートが、コンテナ化やサーバーレス化など、プラットフォームが提供するマネージドサービスの利用が、直接的にロックインに繋がるという発想を強く否定する内容でした。
逆に考えると、こういった発想や意見が実際に多いのかと感じました。
プラットフォームへの利用度（依存）の利用が増えているからと言って、それが直接ロックインに繋がる訳ではなく、実際には色々な要素を考慮する必要がある、という話です。
例えば、ベンダーロックインを避けるため間に独自レイヤーを実装したとしても、逆にエンジニアリングコストが上がってしまい、それを実装＆メンテナンスできるエンジニアのスキルセットにロックインされてしまってる、という考え方もできます。
本来は、スイッチングコストと独自構成(Unique Utility)という視点で考える必要があり、スイッチングコストが低ければなんの問題もないです。 問題なのは、スイッチングコストの高い独自構成を採用してしまっているケースで、その場合が正にロックインという話です。
サーバーレスが流行ってそう
完全に主観ですが、サーバーレス系のセッションの方が席が埋まってました。セッション後の質疑応答などもに盛んに行われているように感じました。
ただ、イベント出会った何人かの人に聞いてみましたが、そもそもAWSへの移行を考えているフェーズの人が多かったです。（たまたまかもしれませんが）
残念ながら、AWSをゴリゴリ使い倒しているという方には会いませんでした。
また、どのセッションも割と一般的な内容が多かったように思えます。日本のイベントの方が、もう少しディープな内容が多い印象でした。
コミュニティの強さを感じた
最後のキーノートでは「The Power of Community: Why Building Strong Connections Matter」というタイトルで、
- コミュニティや人とのコネクションがなぜ重要なのか？
-
コネクションがどのようにキャリア形成や人生に影響するのか？
-
コネクションを形成する上でのマインドセットをどのように保つべきか？
などの熱い話が30分あり、強いメッセージ性を感じました。
登壇者自身も、畑違いの業種からコミュニティの運営を経ていろんな出会いがありAWS Heroになった方だったので、人見知りな自分には刺さる内容でした。
その後交流会が行われましたが、みんな積極的にいろんな人に話しかけていたし、Linked InでのConnectionを交換していました。
コミュ力凄いです。
まとめ
ごはんがおいしかったです。
ヨーロッパでは初めて参加した大きめのイベントですが、こちらのコミュニティの雰囲気を感じられてとても面白かったです。
