[アップデート] AWS CodeStar Connections が AWS CodeConnections に改名されました

本日AWSよりAWS CodeStar Connectionsを「AWS CodeConnections」に改名する旨のアナウンスがありました。

非常に良い判断だと思うのですが、初見だと分かりにくい点があるので簡単に解説します。

AWS CodeStar と AWS CodeStar Connections

はじめにAWS CodeStarはアプリケーションの開発環境、CI/CD環境をプロジェクトの形でひとまとめにして作成し管理できるサービスです。
ちょっと古いですがリリース当時の記事はこちら。

そして残念ながらAWS CodeStarは今年の7月31日をもってサービス終了する予定です。

Discontinuation of AWS CodeStar support
On July 31, 2024, Amazon Web Services (AWS) will discontinue support for creating and viewing AWS CodeStar projects. After July 31, 2024, you will no longer be able to access the AWS CodeStar console or create new projects. However, the AWS resources created by AWS CodeStar, including your source repositories, pipelines, and builds, will be unaffected by this change and will continue to function. AWS CodeStar Connections will not be impacted by this discontinuation.

後継サービスはAmazon CodeCatalystになります。

次にAWS CodeStar Connectionsですが、こちらはCodeStarの名を冠しているものの実体としては別物であり、CodeStarに限らずCodePipeline等でGitHub等の外部リポジトリに接続する際に使う「接続」の部分を担うサービスとなります。

前掲のコメントに

AWS CodeStar Connections will not be impacted by this discontinuation.

とある様にAWS CodeStarは終了するがAWS CodeStar Connectionsは終了しないというのがこれまでの状況でした。

AWS CodeConnections への改名

この様にもともとAWS CodeStar Connectionsという名前自体がわかりにくかった上に、AWS CodeStarのサービス終了を受けて非常に誤解を招きやすい状況であったため「AWS CodeConnections」に改名されたと見て間違いないでしょう。

アナウンスでは

The name change is effective in the APIs, CLI, SDK, and documentation.

とあり単純な改名に留まらずAPIの名前も変える判断に至っています。
これまでサービス名の改名はいくつかありましたがAPIまで変えるのは珍しいです。

すでにドキュメントはAWS CodeConnectionsへリダイレクトされる様になっており、

AWS CLIにも新しくaws codeconnectionsコマンドが追加されています。
従来のaws codestar-connectionsコマンドもまだ残っていますが、

The new APIs, CLI and Console will accept both the old and new connection resource identifiers, and the old APIs, CLI and SDK referencing CodeStar Connections will not be available after April 2025.

と、翌年2025年4月以降は使えなくなるそうです。

既存接続の扱いとARN

既存の接続については

Your existing connections that reference AWS CodeStar Connections will still to continue to work as they did previously.

とのことでそのままの動作を維持してくれるそうです。 ^*1
また、ARNも変わらない模様です。

今後作成される接続についてはサービス名がcodeconnectionsなるため、今後はARNが

• arn:aws:codestar-connections:リージョン:アカウントID:connection/リソースID : 既存の接続
• arn:aws:codeconnections:リージョン:アカウントID:connection/リソースID : 新規作成された接続

新旧2パターン存在する形になります。

このためIAMポリシーなどを設定する際はご注意ください。

補足 : 新規作成リソースが新しいARNになるタイミング

アナウンスによれば

The AWS Management Console will create connection resources referencing CodeStar Connections till May 1, 2024, and after that it will generate connection resources referencing CodeConnections, to give you time to make changes in your IAM policies to use the new resource names.

とのことでマネジメントコンソールから接続を作成する場合は2024年5月1日以降新しいARNになるそうです。
新しいCLIやSDKを使う場合は本時時点でも新しいARNになるとのことです。

最後に

以上となります。

改名は必然だと思いますがAPIまで変わるとどうしても考え事が増えてしまいます。
既存リソースの動作は維持されるので現時点での影響はあまりないでしょうが、将来に備えどこかのタイミングでリソースを作り直しておいても良いかもしれませんね。
