Computer Vision Tools in Alteryx
About Computer Vision tools:
Computer Vision tools were recently added to the Alteryx Platform as they can be used to process images (bmp, jpeg, png) and pdf files. There are five computer vision tools as listed below. By combining these tools a broad range of image processing can be done such as, input or output an image, image cropping or scaling, change brightness, image to text for data processing etc.
How to use Computer Vision Tools:
Alteryx Intelligence Suite (AIS), should be installed before using these tools. A separate licence key is needed for using AIS tools, which will serve as an add-on feature for your existing Alteryx Designer licence.
Image Input tool: Using this tool, it is possible to add images into a workflow. Image file types are restricted to jpeg, bmp, and png. There is an option to add pdf files too. This tool has two anchors: input and output anchors. Tool option allows to add all files, or just specific files. If specific input files are chosen then one or more file types can be selected as shown below.
Image Output tool: This tool can be used to save an image into a desired directory. The available options for file type are bmp, jpeg and png. The output file name can be extracted from the file path or file name. If the users want to save images as pdf, word, powerpoint etc. then they can use the Render tool which can be found in the reporting category.
Image Processing tool: Using this tool it is possible to modify images by realigning, changing the threshold values using available algorithms, scaling to resize the image, and cropping to remove parts of the image. Additionally, brightness can be used to adjust the contrast and the grayscale option will make it a monochrome image. A visual description of the possible tool configurations can be found below. The order of execution can be changed by dragging the item up or down.
Image Template tool: This tool can be used to deliver images with annotations within a workflow. Image template can be selected from a pre-existing image file or it can receive images from another tool (such as an image input tool). Annotation can be created by dragging at a desired location on the image. The annotation can be saved as a text or an image. Running the workflow will pass the annotation to next tools in the workflow.
Image to Text tool: This tool can be used to extract text from the image file. Additionally, automatic table detection is possible too via this tool. The “D” anchor is the data input anchor which will receive a source image for text extraction. The “T” anchor is template input which is used to automatically detect any incoming table. Choose the language for text extraction, it can be a single or multiple languages of your choice. The extracted text will be available in the output anchor.
Summary
By using these recently developed Computer Vision tools, it is possible to modify images files within Alteryx.
