re:Invent期間真っ盛りです。What’s Newも荒ぶりを見せています。今回はその中から、EBSスナップショットの新しい階層であるAmazon EBS Snapshots Archiveをご紹介します。
Amazon EBS Snapshots Archive
Amazon EBS Snapshots Archiveは90日以上保持し、ほとんどアクセスする予定のないスナップショットのストレージコストを最大で75%削減可能です。プロジェクトの要件などの理由で長期保存が必要なスナップショットに対してAmazon EBS Snapshots Archiveがマッチします。なおAmazon EBS Snapshots Archiveは全量のスナップショットとなります。

料金は保存にかかる月額料金と、リストア時にかかります。比較として既存のEBS Snapshot(Standard)の料金も記載します。

コスト削減に関する注意
コストに関しては以下のような注意書きがFAQの中にあります。
Q: Which snapshots in EBS Snapshots Standard tier will benefit from using EBS Snapshots Archive for cost savings? When you archive an incremental snapshot, the process of converting it to a full snapshot may or may not reduce the storage associated with the standard tier. The cost savings depend on the size of the data in the snapshot that is unique to the snapshot and not referenced by a subsequent snapshot in the lineage, aka “the unique size” of the snapshot. The unique size of a snapshot depends on the change rate in your data. Typically, monthly, quarterly, or yearly incremental snapshots have large enough, unique sizes to enable cost savings.
削減効果が発揮されるかは、スナップショットの固有サイズに依存するため、Archiveを行う際はストレージコストが削減されるか確認をするようにしましょう。
リストア時の流れ
Amazon EBS Snapshots Archiveを通常のEBS Snapshotにリストア(24h〜72h程度)し、リストアされたEBSSnapshotからさらにEBSボリュームを作成する。という流れになります。
