AWS announced Amazon Athena for Apache Spark at the Keynote Session of re:Invent 2022.

Amazon Athena now supports Apache Spark and is generally available. Amazon Athena for Apache Spark provides an interactive, streamlined and serverless experience. You can perform interactive analytics on Apache Spark in under a second with Amazon Athena for Apache Spark.

Apache Spark can be used for complex and powerful analytics. Amazon Athena for Apache Spark uses optimized Spark runtime, which makes the Spark applications run faster. With this, you can spend more time on insights instead of waiting for results. With Amazon Athena for Apache Spark, you can build applications without configuring software or managing resources, as it is taken care of by Athena.

Available Regions

Amazon Athens for Apache Spark is available only in the following 5 regions:

  • US East (Ohio)
  • US East (N. Virginia)
  • US West (Oregon)
  • Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
